Method

A row is added when the company publishes a press release, blog post or SEC filing stating the round, or when the buyer or target announces an acquisition. Each row links the story that reports it, and each story links the primary announcement or filing. Amounts and valuations are the stated figures; post-money is noted where the company says so. Figures reported only by third parties are not included. Values the company does not state are marked not stated or not disclosed. For acquisitions the Company column is the target, the amount is the price and the buyer is shown in the lead investors column.

Questions people ask

Why are some well-reported rounds missing?
Rows are added only when the company's own announcement or filing states the figures. Rounds reported only by news outlets or data vendors are left out until the company confirms them.
Does the tracker include IPO filings?
Yes. An S-1 or equivalent filing is listed as a row with the amount marked not stated until the company sets the offering size.
