What GXO and Agility announced

Contract logistics company GXO and Agility Robotics said on 26 October 2026 that Digit humanoid robots will go to GXO sites in North Carolina and Tennessee. At the Statesville and Lebanon sites, Digit will handle highly repetitive material-handling tasks in e-commerce fulfilment. Deployments are expected to begin in early 2027 with Digit 4 and then migrate to Digit 5 once it is commercially available.

The partnership started with a proof of concept at GXO's Flowery Branch, Georgia site in late 2023. In June 2024 the companies signed a multi-year Robots-as-a-Service agreement, which the release calls the first formal commercial humanoid deployment in live operations. At Flowery Branch, Digit has moved more than 100,000 totes onto conveyors alongside existing automation.

Digit 5 and the production base

Agility says Digit has logged more than 65,000 hours of real-world operation across commercial operations and customer programmes. Digit 5, unveiled on 15 September 2026, is designed for cooperatively safe work near people and a broader range of industrial workflows. Agility builds robots at RoboFab, a 70,000-square-foot facility in Salem, Oregon designed for annual production of up to 10,000 robots. It also runs Agility Arc, a cloud platform for managing robot fleets. GXO, for its part, says it has more than 150,000 team members and more than 1,000 facilities.

GXO chief executive Patrick Kelleher is quoted on delivering "practical solutions" for customers and staff. Agility chief executive Peggy Johnson says "expanding to additional sites is the clearest signal that the value is real". The release also notes that Agility is merging with Churchill Capital Corp XI, with the deal expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026 and the combined company to trade on Nasdaq as AGLT.

What changed for warehouse operators

Here a customer that has run Digit since a 2023 proof of concept is adding sites, a stronger signal of commercial value than a first trial. The useful numbers for other operators are the 100,000 totes and 65,000 hours, but the release does not say over what period the totes were moved or how many robots did the work. The financial terms of the Robots-as-a-Service deal are not stated in the announcement. Other humanoid programmes, including NVIDIA's reference humanoid, remain at the development stage.

What to watch next

The checkpoints are the early 2027 start in Statesville and Lebanon, the commercial release date of Digit 5, and the close of the Churchill Capital merger, whose filings may disclose fleet sizes and revenue. More humanoid stories are under Robotics & Physical AI.
