What OpenAI announced
OpenAI added a Slides feature to ChatGPT on 16 October 2026, according to the ChatGPT release notes. Slides creates presentations that live in Space, the shared workspace in ChatGPT where Pages already sit. A deck can start from a conversation, from uploaded files or from an outline. Users can also share an example deck so ChatGPT follows its style and layout.
Inside a deck, users can edit text, images, shapes and charts directly, or ask ChatGPT to make the changes. ChatGPT can generate custom images for slides, and users can add their own. Teammates can be invited to edit the same deck in real time and leave shared comments. To start, OpenAI says users ask ChatGPT in Work to create a presentation in Space.
Who gets it and how decks leave ChatGPT
Slides is rolling out to eligible Pro, Business and Enterprise users who have Space access, on the web and in the desktop app. Plus, Go and Free plans are not named in the release note. Decks can be presented directly from ChatGPT. On the web they export to PowerPoint, PDF or Google Slides. In the desktop app, a deck can be opened in PowerPoint or Keynote when those apps are installed.
The release note does not state a separate price, a slide limit or whether exported files keep live charts. It also does not say which model generates the slides. The same release-notes entry describes a GPT-6 Pro update with parallel agents for Pro users, but it does not link that update to Slides.
Why it matters
Before this release, Space had no editor for slide decks. With Pages added on 29 September and Slides on 16 October, OpenAI now covers documents and decks in Space, which puts ChatGPT closer to office suites such as Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace. The export options matter for teams that still present from PowerPoint or Google Slides, because the deck does not have to stay in ChatGPT.
The plan limits matter too. By tying Slides to Space access on Pro, Business and Enterprise, OpenAI keeps the feature in its paid work tiers. That follows earlier work-focused releases, including GPT-6 with Intelligent UI, which changed how answers look in the Chat tab. More app updates are listed under AI Tools & Apps.
What to watch next
OpenAI says the rollout is gradual, so availability will vary by account and workspace for some time. Open questions include support for Plus users, editing on iOS and Android, and how exported PowerPoint files handle custom fonts and animations. None of these are stated in the announcement.
