What Apple announced
Apple announced an update to Apple Creator Studio, its subscription bundle of creative apps, on 27 October 2026. The headline for productivity users is a new intelligent assistant in Keynote, Pages and Numbers. Apple says it is built on Apple models and OpenAI, understands the context of the open document and works without leaving the app.
In Keynote the assistant helps design, animate and refine slides. In Pages it drafts, restructures and edits text. In Numbers it calculates, visualizes and organizes data, suggests chart types with a one-tap preview and builds tables using world knowledge. The assistant is in beta, needs an Apple Intelligence-capable device on iOS 27, iPadOS 27 or macOS 27, and works in US English only.
MCP opens the apps to outside agents
The bigger change for developers is Model Context Protocol support. Apple says MCP lets external AI agents and tools read content, perform edits and run automated actions directly in Keynote, Pages and Numbers. It requires macOS 27 or later. Keynote also adds the Keynote Interchange Format, an open JSON-based file bundle that Apple says is readable by external tools, developer workflows and AI agents.
One of the press images Apple released shows the ChatGPT Mac app summarizing an open Keynote deck, with GPT-6 Astra selected as the model. Apple's text does not name which agents are supported, so any MCP-capable client should in principle connect. Apple has not said whether MCP access is limited to subscribers.
Other AI features in the update
Logic Pro for Mac gets an assistant in beta, powered by a mix of Apple-built and third-party models, that can start a song, set up a vocal track from one prompt or refine a project. It needs macOS 27 on an Apple Intelligence-capable Mac and is also US English only. Pixelmator Pro adds Generate Fill, which edits a circled area from a text description and matches lighting and perspective. Final Cut Pro and Motion add image generation from text, and Final Cut Pro gains 23 transcription languages.
The update reaches the App Store in November, free for existing subscribers. New subscribers pay $12.99 a month or $129 a year in the US, with a one-month trial. The free versions of Keynote, Pages and Numbers remain, but Apple describes the assistant as a feature for subscribers.
What it means and what to watch
Office suites now compete on built-in assistants, as with ChatGPT Slides. MCP support goes further by letting any agent operate Apple's apps. Watch for the exact November date, documentation for the MCP server and support beyond US English. More productivity tool news is on the AI Tools hub.
