What Notion announced

Notion announced on 19 October 2026 a rebuilt agent system, an upgraded model router and a new credit system for Notion AI. The post is by co-founder Akshay Kothari. Notion says Notion Agent and Custom Agents now run on new infrastructure, the sixth generation of its agent harness, and can work on a single task for more than 24 hours, up from five minutes.

Notion lists the technical changes. Each session runs on a dedicated service with a queue-backed worker loop, so work survives restarts. Agents get their own computer and browser and can write short scripts instead of spending model tokens. Long conversations are compacted and large tool results are moved out of the context window. A new Review for me mode uses a separate model to check whether an action is safe before the agent takes it. Notion says infrastructure uptime is above 99.9% and Custom Agent runs cost about 30% less in testing.

What changes for teams running Custom Agents

The upgraded Auto router sends each task to the model that best balances quality, speed and cost, and re-routes if a model stops making progress. Across more than 20 common use cases, Notion says, Auto delivered results similar to Opus 5.5 and Astra at about 90% lower average cost, so credits go about 10 times further.

Business and Enterprise seats now include 1,500 Standard credits a month, for work where Notion picks the model, and 500 Select credits a month, for choosing a model or running Custom Agents. Team Custom Agents use Select credits by default even when other people use them, and admins can buy extra Notion credits to fund shared agents or expensive models. Users no longer have to buy credits before building a Custom Agent. The system is live for new customers and applies to existing customers from 2 November 2026.

Notion also lets users connect a ChatGPT Plus, Pro or Go plan to their personal Notion Agent, though not yet to Custom Agents, and put Bring Your Own Key in private alpha for Enterprise. Notion MCP was overhauled, with memory sync live and skills over MCP coming soon. A planned AI Command Center will show credit use by member, feature and agent and let admins set spending limits.

Why it matters

The move from five-minute to 24-hour tasks changes what a Custom Agent can be used for, from quick edits to multi-step processes that run across a working day. The credit split is the other half of the story. By separating everyday Auto usage from agent and model-choice usage, Notion keeps a few busy Custom Agents from draining everyone's allowance, but it also makes agent costs a line item admins must manage. The 90% and 30% savings are Notion's own test results, not customer data.

What to watch next

Existing customers move to the new credits on 2 November 2026, and admins will receive an email with details. The AI Command Center and skills via MCP have no dates yet. More workflow tool coverage is collected under AI Automation.
