NVIDIA and Oracle announced on 27 October 2026 that NVIDIA Vera Rubin NVL72 systems and NVIDIA Vera CPUs are now generally available on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, and that OCI Superclusters will expand to multi-gigawatt scale. Each NVL72 rack links 72 GPUs over NVLink, and OCI's network scales across hundreds of thousands of GPUs. OpenAI is testing Vera CPUs on OCI and says it is bringing them into production.

What NVIDIA and Oracle announced

NVIDIA and Oracle announced on 27 October 2026 that they plan to expand Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Superclusters with NVIDIA Vera Rubin NVL72 systems to multi-gigawatt scale. NVIDIA Vera Rubin NVL72 systems and NVIDIA Vera CPUs are now generally available on OCI. OCI also plans to introduce NVIDIA HGX Rubin NVL8 systems, but the release gives no date for that.

Each Vera Rubin NVL72 rack connects 72 GPUs through NVIDIA NVLink. NVIDIA says OCI's network scales across hundreds of thousands of GPUs. OCI Superclusters combine the NVL72 rack-scale systems with Oracle Acceleron networking, NVIDIA Spectrum-X Ethernet with Spectrum-6 switches and BlueField-4 DPUs, and gigawatt-class power and cooling. The Vera Rubin expansion builds on OCI's existing GB200 and GB300 NVL72 deployments.

What the Vera CPU is for

NVIDIA positions OCI Compute with Vera CPUs for agentic AI workloads such as tool calls, code execution and data retrieval. Customers can scale CPU and GPU resources independently through OCI Kubernetes Engine. NVIDIA says customers with early access to Vera CPUs on OCI, including OpenAI, are testing them across AI workloads. Uday Ruddarraju, chief technology officer of compute at OpenAI, is quoted saying the company is bringing Vera into production on OCI to support these workloads at scale.

The planned HGX Rubin NVL8 platform puts eight Rubin GPUs connected over NVLink in an x86 server with two 64-core Intel Xeon 6 CPUs, 4TB of DDR5 memory and 6.4 Tbps of RDMA networking. NVIDIA also says OpenAI trained and served GPT-6 Astra in Abilene on an OCI Supercluster with more than 100,000 NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs. Ian Buck, NVIDIA's vice president of hyperscale and high-performance computing, is quoted saying AI factories must be productive, durable and fungible.

Why it matters

The release moves Vera Rubin from an announced platform to a generally available cloud product on a hyperscaler that already runs OpenAI's largest training cluster. The separate CPU offering is the new element: NVIDIA is selling its Arm-based Vera CPU as a standalone compute tier for the non-GPU parts of agent workloads, and OpenAI is the named first production customer. The release does not state prices, the number of racks, the total gigawatts or a timetable for the expansion, so the scale claim cannot yet be checked against a number.

What to watch next

Open points are the HGX Rubin NVL8 launch date on OCI, the first public gigawatt figure for the Superclusters, and OCI list prices for Vera CPU and Vera Rubin instances, none of which appear in the announcement. Oracle's own filings should give capital expenditure figures for the buildout. More infrastructure stories are collected under AI Chips & Infrastructure.
